Sonoma , California (February 28, 2008) - STaSIS Motorsports announced today it is developing the next generation Audi package for sedan-based endurance racing. Set to debut in 2009, the new program will advance STaSIS' own in-house technical development, as well as enhance technical partnerships with industry giants Alcon, Mahle Powertrain and Ohlins USA.
Coming off a highly successful 2007 season, which included two wins and 17 top 10 finishes, STaSIS Motorsports has committed 2008 to the development of several key technologies for race and commercial applications.
“We've decided to step up our program and move on to new challenges in 2009,” STaSIS Motorsports president Paul Lambert said. I'm excited about the opportunity to take what we've learned in our years in World Challenge sprint racing and apply that in a new format. Our team is up for the challenge and anxious to get started.”
Adam Pecorari will remain on board as STaSIS Motorsports' primary driver. Following a successful 2007 campaign that included a win from the pole at Mosport and a second place finish at Road Atlanta, Pecorari will act as test driver for on-track development.
“Adam's performance in 2007 reflected a great combination of speed and consistency,” STaSIS Motorsports Technical Director Shaun Gillilan said. “Working with him during development gives us a knowledgeable driver who can provide the kind of feedback we'll need.”
According to Pecorari, the year will provide a new challenge. “Performance in a testing scenario is considerably different than a racing environment,” Pecorari said. “Achieving consistency and providing feedback over a testing session requires more patience and better understanding of how the car is behaving.”
The West Coast-based team will complete development and testing at STaSIS Motorsports' home at Infineon Raceway. Commercial product development at STaSIS has always run parallel with the company's racing program. Past technical innovations by the motorsports program have made their way into Audi showrooms across the country in the form of STaSIS Signature Series vehicles.
No date has been announced for the unveiling of STaSIS Motorsports' 2009 effort, but updates on the team's progress will be available through their web site at www.stasisengineering.com .
